Intermediate
Tower & Chair
50 min

Tower and chair work that builds balance, stability and full body control. Two pieces of apparatus, both older than the reformer, and both very good at showing you which side is doing the work.
What a class looks like
We split the class between the two. The tower uses springs anchored above you, so the resistance pulls in directions the reformer never does, which is where the shoulder and back work comes from. The chair is small, low and unforgiving, and almost everything on it is done on one leg or one arm at a time.
Groups rotate, so you get time on both without waiting around. Expect fewer repetitions than in Sculpt and a lot more attention on how you are standing.
Who it is for
Members with some Pilates behind them who want something other than the reformer. It is a favourite with runners and cyclists, because single leg work makes a side to side difference obvious within about two minutes.
What to bring
Grippy socks and fitted clothing. Loose trousers catch on the chair pedal, which is not dangerous but is annoying.
Good to know
This is the class where people discover an imbalance they did not know they had. That is the point, and it settles within a few weeks of coming regularly.
